Shen Yun a ‘Spectacle,’ Says Retired Colonel

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.—Retired military man, Colonel Clifton Daniel, found Shen Yun Performing Arts particularly enjoyable when he saw the classical Chinese dance company at the Civic Music Hall with his wife Candy, April 2.

“I really think the technique they use for melding into the background—I wish American theater would adopt that, it’s really neat,” he said.

Mr. Daniel had learned about New York-based Shen Yun when he received a brochure in the mail advertising the presentation.

In 2006, a group of leading classical Chinese artists came together in New York with one wish: to revive the true, divinely inspired culture of China and share it with the world,” the company website explains. “And then we got on the internet and got tickets.”

He enjoyed all aspects of the world-acclaimed Shen Yun specifically the radiant costumes, and the classical and ethnic dances.

“With state-of-the-art graphics technology, Shen Yun’s digital-backdrop team creates vividly animated settings, extending the stage and transporting the audience to a world where heaven and earth are one,” the website says.

“The backdrops are magical windows to completely different realms. From vast open grasslands in one dance to the stately elegance of Tang Dynasty pavilions in another; from dusty yellow battlegrounds to tropical beaches to Himalayan peaks to picturesque scenery of the Yellow River Delta—the digital projection infinitely expands and transforms the stage.”

If the colonel was to tell others about Shen Yun he would say he and his wife had a very enjoyable evening. “It was a spectacle,” he said.
