After a two-year hiatus, Savannah, Georgia, the city of Southern hospitality, will open the Johnny Mercer Theatre at the Savannah Civic Center to Shen Yun Performing Arts on March 11 and 12.

Just as cities the world over have praised Shen Yun for its fabulous production and talented performers, Savannah’s audience will once again see the beauty of Shen Yun on its stage.

Casey Wenum, a Southwest Airlines pilot and former Air Force pilot of 22 years, said in 2023 that Shen Yun “is one of the most beautiful shows I’ve ever seen.”

Mr. Wenum said the whole show “encapsulates all the goodness” and “encompasses all the spirituality and culture” of ancient traditions.

Audience members from Shen Yun’s appearance in 2023 have commented on the positive energy that flows from the stories danced on stage.

Health and spiritual coach Kyle Seeger said, “There’s a harmony with the performers on the stage; there’s a harmony between all of them. But then we’re all sharing in that harmony, and so with the movements that they’re doing, the flow of their energy and the flow of their spirit was very evident. I could actually feel the spirit moving through the room.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive the divinely inspired culture of China before communism.

John McKinnon, a pharmacy owner, said that, even without words, the performers’ values were clear to see.

“The many years of traditions, they are showing through. I can see that, as I’m watching the young dancers’ faces, you can get a sense, a deep feeling, that there is a thread within that [connects them] to their heritage.”

When he watched Shen Yun in 2023, former television CEO Bob Brillante saw that the classical Chinese dance and music company lived up to its name. Shen Yun means “the beauty of divine beings dancing.”

“What I find so amazing is you can see them float across the stage; you never even hear them touch the stage. They just seem like they’re floating across the stage in their performance. It’s just so athletic, and so beautiful and elegant and graceful at the same time. It truly is very wonderful,” he said.

Amazing Production

“The whole production is amazing,” Mr. Billiante said. “As I watch something like this, being in the entertainment and the television business, I think of how many people it must’ve taken to compose the music and to have such beautiful costumes. The staging, the transitions from the video screen to the stage with live performers.”

To this day, the communist regime continues to persecute Falun Gong. Mr. Brillante said that as a Christian, he resonated with Falun Gong’s values of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance, and expressed his belief that those values should be shared with more people.

“The Chinese have such a rich culture,” he said. “I think it has so much influence on the entire world. If you look at every religion, at every faith, at people around the world, they all believe in something that is greater.

“We all believe in treating people with the basic principles of Falun Gong, the basic principles of truth and compassion. These are things that we all share together, and we need to share together to come together and unite as people, and it goes far beyond the borders of China.”

Scott MacLachlan, former provost and dean of student services at Florida’s Palm Beach State College, noted the beauty of traditional Chinese culture when he saw Shen Yun in 2022.

“What we see today of China is not what China really is. These dancers and actors portrayed what I think is truly part of what the Chinese people are; good, giving, spiritual, caring for each other, not this cold communism that we see today,” he said.

Professional event photographer Taylor Hayes said she would encourage everyone to see Shen Yun.
“It is part of the world that we don’t know a lot about. We have to remember the cultural significance of 5,000 years of civilization and how beautiful it is and what a tragedy it would be if it was gone.”

This year, as Shen Yun is set to perform in over 200 cities around the world and across five continents, the 2025 touring season is shaping up to be the artists’ busiest yet and a glorious treat for theatergoers.

For Savannah and nearby cities, including Charleston, Spartanburg, and Charlotte, South Carolina, theatergoers can book tickets by visiting ShenYun.com/tickets.
