Shen Yun Performing Arts will visit San Jose, California, from Dec. 26 through Dec. 31 with an all-new production once again at the Center for the Performing Arts.

The New York-based performing arts company has become popular the world over since its inception in 2006, and San Antonio audiences are no exception. Last season, theatergoers attending Shen Yun in San Jose were wowed.

Business owner and circus performer Ian Fratar attended Shen Yun Performing Arts for the first time last year and felt the devotion and passion, especially of the dancers.

“I’m kind of overtaken by the talent and the passion and the smiles of the performers,” he said. “Everything is delightful.”

“They’re impeccable. The dancers are truly impeccable. I see a lot of circus performers, and I see a lot of mistakes, but not here. The stress must be incredible, and yet they seem to enjoy what they do here,” he said.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization—a China before communism—and audiences around the world often note they feel traditional values expressed through the art.

Human Rights Awareness

Shen Yun artists are dedicated to raising awareness about ongoing human rights issues under the rule of the Chinese Communist Party in present-day China.
Robert Weinmann, neurologist and editor-in-chief of a digital publication said, “We would be better off without [communism].” He condemned the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of people of faith, which began after the party took power only in 1949.

His son, Paul Robbins, spoke of his personal interest in cosmology. History moves in grand cycles, and Shen Yun is depicting a tipping point, he explained.

“They’re bringing out the message of the coming golden age that we’re coming into, and that’s the transition that humanity is in right now, leaving the dark age. We’re at the darkest times of the dark age,” Robbins said.

“There’s a new dawn coming, and it’s golden, and this company is bringing that in the most inspiring way. I am so touched by the message and the timeliness of this performance to reach humanity at this time.”

“I didn’t realize that this performance was all about the divine history of Chinese culture,” he added. “I am absolutely in love with ancient Chinese culture for that reason, and the message of this is one of the most powerful messages that humanity needs to see right now.”

For 5,000 years, China stood as the “Celestial Empire,” and its civilization centered around the principle of harmony between heaven, earth, and humankind.
Shen Yun’s art, meanwhile, upholds traditional, universal values like truth, compassion, and forbearance, according to its program book.

“This is really big. It’s way more than just a dance performance,” Robbins said. “We’re about bringing more love in our connection with the divine back as a consciousness into the human connection.”
