SACRAMENTO, Calif.—Shen Yun Performing Arts will soon perform an all-new production at the SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center from Jan. 29 through Feb. 2 to great anticipation.

Last year’s theatergoers loved the positive message and great entertainment that Shen Yun offers.

“I loved it. The colors were striking, the talent, and there’s a sense of the divine. I think it goes beyond Chinese culture,” said project manager Mark Turpin.

Ancient Culture

For 5,000 years, China’s civilization flourished under the shared belief that the divine will bless those who uphold universal moral values.

“The history of the Chinese people is just incredible,” said business owner David Behr. “What they were able to do, you know, eons and eons: their art, their science.”

Tragically, within just a few decades of the communist party’s violent takeover of the Middle Kingdom, these beliefs were erased and replaced with atheism. Today, Shen Yun and its celebration of “China before communism” is banned in China.

“For a long time, we’ve known that freedom is not freedom in communist China, in any kind of communist regime. I think it’s important for us to have an awareness and to support where we can,” Mr. Turpin said.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive China’s traditional culture of 5,000 years, which gave the world so much.

People noted that energy seemed to come from within the performers and flow out to the audience.

Stephen Weller, an air pollution specialist, said that Shen Yun’s performance had “a lot of really good energy,” which he felt came “from inside each one of the dancers.”

Singers also perform in Shen Yun, and music professionals loved them.

Singer, actress, and sought-after voice coach Raquela Burt praised Shen Yun’s baritone: “There are no words that could describe his [air] support and breath control. Most importantly, the projection of his voice—he’s well trained and he has an incredible amount of experience,” she said.

“He’s obviously very young, but I can see him singing for the rest of his life. He sings wonderfully. It’s just such a tremendous performance that I was crying at the end.”

The dancers’ beautiful costumes and excellent physical training wowed audiences last year.

Randy Crockett, IT company owner, said he was impressed by the dancers’ “ability to tell a whole story—get all of the context and really understand the details—without any words.”

Karen Haden, a professional ballroom dancer, who has danced for much of her life and competed for 15 years, expressed that she has “never seen such precision” in dance before.

“It’s amazing. Shen Yun is probably one of the best shows I’ve ever seen,” she said. “Very good.”

Mrs. Haden said Shen Yun was more than a dance performance. “The message is huge, it’s huge; it’s waking people up on this planet,” she said.

Spiritual Awakening

David Steinhafel, owner of a winery, was touched by the spiritual message woven throughout Shen Yun’s performance.

“I thought it was inspiring,” he said. “It was uplifting. Overall, the message was one of compassion and humanity. It is of understanding and acceptance.”

“The dancing, the spirituality, the colors, and the music—everything together. It’s like putting together a fine meal,” said comedian Steve Barkley. “There are no words for it. It’s so spiritual. For someone to [come up] with this production in their mind and make it a physical reality—it’s just amazing.”

“It’s very important to me, I love the spirituality. It was very uplifting,” he said. “The message of love, forgiveness, coming together, enlightenment, and pushing away atheism. We need to get back to our roots.”
