CLAREMONT, Calif.—Jason Lamoreaux, CEO of Coldwell Banker Commercial–Real Estate Solutions, said a friend invited him to come to Shen Yun Performing Arts at Bridges Auditorium on the afternoon of Saturday, March 29, and he was pleased by the “flawless execution” of classical Chinese dance and live orchestral accompaniment.

He said he didn’t know what Shen Yun was going to be like, and he found it “mesmerizing.”

“The music is incredible, the dancers are effortless,” he said during intermission. “It’s also amazing how the dancers interact with the costumes. It’s a beautiful show.”

Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company.

One of the most comprehensive dance forms in the world, classical Chinese dance requires years of perfecting its dance fundamentals and movements, as well as flips and leaps that later inspired gymnastics and acrobatics.

Mr. Lamoreaux said the interaction between these dancers and the digitally projected backdrop was “ingenious.”

Shen Yun’s backdrop is the first of its kind. The company holds a patent for the integration of the animated background scenery and the performers on stage.

The New York-based company puts on a brand-new performance every year, including all-new music played by the orchestra, new colorful costumes, and new dance pieces, including classical dance, story-based dance, and ethnic dance.

Mr. Lamoreaux also said he appreciated the descriptions ahead of time of each dance vignette and music piece, as told by two bilingual hosts throughout the performance, as well as the variety of artistry.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization and portray life in China before communism. Traditional Chinese culture is believed to be “divinely inspired” and was centered on the concepts of harmony between heaven, earth, and humankind.

Mr. Lamoreaux said he greatly enjoyed this aspect of the performance.

“I think it’s phenomenal to be able to share a different culture. Sometimes we get too isolated, right? So to be able to share another culture to see not only current but also historic is phenomenal. So very eye-opening,” he said.

The real estate developer said that after working seven days a week, Shen Yun was a great way to spend his evening off. He said each unique feature of the performance captured his interest.

“It’s all phenomenal,” Mr. Lamoreaux said.
