SAN FRANCISCO—Joan Chintz, a real estate agent, and Bob Heck, a magazine publisher, attended the Shen Yun performance in San Francisco on Jan. 4 at the War Memorial Opera House.

Both loved the beauty and the colors of the performance, and said they look forward to seeing Shen Yun again next year.

Joan had recently visited China and was eager to see more of the Chinese culture.

“I’ve been to the Forbidden City and the Great Wall, so I was very motivated to see this,” she said.

Shen Yun strives to revive authentic Chinese culture that has mostly been lost under 60 years of communist rule. The show bills its performance as bringing 5,000 years of Chinese culture to life onstage through classical Chinese dance and music.

Bob was captivated by the performance’s animated digital backdrop.

“I thought that was extraordinary. It’s wonderful technology, and it incorporated beautifully into the onstage performance,” he said.

Shen Yun uses state-of-the-art digital backdrops, custom-designed to match a given dance’s costumes, storyline and choreography.

Joan mentioned the fact that Shen Yun currently cannot be seen in China.

“I’m sorry that they’re not able to see this in China, but I’m glad that I’m able to see it here.”

“I think that all, especially Chinese children, should really be brought here to see the dancing, the colors, the history—where they’re from,” she said.

Hopefully, that day is not far off.
