NEW YORK—Renowned interior-designer Geoffrey Bradfield found Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra’s performance to be an extraordinary experience.
“This was so wonderful. And it was a bit of a surprise, actually, that the whole program was so diverse, and I really loved that,” Mr. Bradfield said after taking in the performance on the evening of Saturday Oct. 15 at Carnegie Hall.
Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra is unique in that it combines classical Western instruments with traditional Chinese instruments. The programs of the orchestra often include original compositions that feature the perfect harmony of music of the East and West, as well as classical compositions by great masters of Western classical music.
“I loved the way they mixed the program,” Mr. Bradfield continued. “The whole performance was just extraordinary, and I’m very happy to be here.”
Based in New York, Mr. Bradfield counts among his clients many of the world’s prominent celebrities and aristocratic families. Some of his works include a major overhaul of Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney’s Westbury, a restoration of the late King Hussein’s mansion in Maryland, and the design of Hollywood director Oliver Stone’s riverside New York apartment, to name just a few.
Mr. Bradfield praised the hard work that goes into creating a such a performance, and described the opening piece as a “magnificent swelling of sound.”
Part of the performance that particularly stood out for him were the vocal performances, where the orchestra’s renowned vocalists use the bel canto style to sing Chinese lyrics—a truly unique art form being revived by Shen Yun.
“I thought [the soprano] was absolutely magical. Beautiful, of course, but her voice was just out of this world,” Mr. Bradfield said.
Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra, Mr. Bradfield added, is “absolutely fabulous.”
“I loved it, so excellent.”
