SACRAMENTO, Calif.—After over a decade of waiting to get the chance to see Shen Yun Performing Arts, Cecilia Kay, a dancer, finally got the chance on Jan. 30.

“Shen Yun’s been a dream of mine for years. My friend here is a true gentleman for bringing me here tonight. I’ve been wishing to see them for seasons and seasons. I’m so thankful,” Ms. Kay said.

Shen Yun is based in New York and its dancers are trained in classical Chinese dance, one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world.
“They are so beautiful. Their technique, the rhythm, the material chosen for costumes, the gentleness, the softness of sound, the stories—I haven’t seen one mistake,” she stated.
Classical Chinese dance demands great flexibility and athleticism from dancers, and Ms. Kay could see all the practice that Shen Yun’s artists had put in.

“I see all their practice and hard work. I know what goes into it, and I have so much honor and respect. I try not to cry when I watch. It’s beautiful. I might cry a little,” she said.

Ms. Kay expressed her appreciation for Shen Yun’s dancers.

“I love you all. You’re incredible. Every one of you. Your feet were perfectly pointed. I could go on and on, but I just hope to meet you all individually someday. Much love from California,” she said.

Shen Yun’s performance includes dance stories that draw from Chinese literature, history, and legend. One dance story that resonated with Ms. Kay was the one portraying the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners in present-day China.

“Gorgeous, and it was very refreshing. Beautiful reminder that suffering is only for a moment, but joy comes in the morning,” she said.

Ms. Kay shared that she would love to share Shen Yun on social media because more people should understand the true face of communism and see the beauty of Shen Yun.

“I would be happy to share it on X, on social media. I’m super amazed because of the political message. And I believe that it’s world-changing. So, I would be more than happy to continue to share that with everyone I know. Whether they love me or hate me, I will tell them that things like this, the art and entertainment world, truly make our lives better when we listen to the message,” she said.
