NEW YORK—Galeyn Remington has an eye for detail. Aside from being a negotiation expert specialist in deadlock situations, she is also a painter of detailed realism from nature. Ms. Remington attended the performance of Shen Yun Performing Arts in Lincoln Center on Jan. 18 with great pleasure.
As an artist, the costumes stood out for Ms. Remington, in particular the long silk, sleeves which she said created flowing lines.
“Artistically it’s absolutely beautiful. The overall effect is very exciting and moving,” she said.
According to the Shen Yun website, designers stress harmonic balance and contrast. Hundreds of pieces, including imperial dragon robes, phoenix coronets, cloud capes, as well as ethnic attire, are recreated with meticulous attention every season. The costume artists’ intent is to create “an authentic presentation of the attire that comes from China’s divinely inspired traditional culture, and a consummate stage effect,” says the website.
New York-based Shen Yun’s mission is to revive the 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture, which was nearly lost during the Cultural Revolution in China. Performances feature classical Chinese dance, as well as ethnic and folk dance of the Mongols and Yao ethnic groups, among others.
“It’s wonderful,” she said. “I love the dancing, and the music, and the tradition. It’s just beautiful and so well done.”
