NEW YORK—Belinda Johnson, a model and an actress, was enchanted by Shen Yun Performing Arts on Apr. 21.
“I feel like a little kid all over again,” Ms. Johnson said. “It brought life into me. I just felt so good inside.”
New York-based Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of China’s divinely inspired civilization.
“Through the universal language of music and dance, Shen Yun weaves a wondrous tapestry of heavenly realms, ancient legends, and modern heroic tales, taking you on a journey through 5,000 years of Chinese culture,” according to the company’s website. “Its stunning beauty and tremendous energy leave audiences uplifted and inspired.”
Ms. Johnson was touched by “the bright, bold, beautiful colors,” and enjoyed how the digital backdrops “would come alive” as though they were “almost magical.”
She has seen Shen Yun advertised, and always wanted to come, but the cards had never lined up for it to happen. “But this year I just had it in my gut that I had to come,“ she said. ”I absolutely loved it.”
“We all need a couple of hours of our lives to just sit down and just be free and know that there’s hope and there’s love,” said Ms. Johnson. “It was really special.”
Ms. Johnson said she would recommend the show to everyone, and will experience Shen Yun again next year.
“I'd like to bring my children, too,” she said. “I think they would definitely enjoy it.”
