MILAN—Travel isn’t uncommon for businessmen and it certainly isn’t uncommon for Shen Yun Performing Arts. Business executive, Angelo Vezzulli, came to see Shen Yun at Teatro degli Arcimboldi and he was pleased to see the true Chinese culture presented by Shen Yun.

“I was fascinated. Unprecedented synchronicity, athleticism, amazing colors. I am fascinated by the Chinese world. I follow the Chinese market. I will be in China on Saturday,” Mr. Vezzulli said.

Shen Yun is based in New York and its mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization, China before communism.

“It is a culture that is very far from ours, I mean European. Not only Italian,” he said.

Although Shen Yun shares the beauty of Chinese culture, it is not able to perform in China.

“We are talking about 5,000 years of history. It is a pity that this show cannot be seen in China,” he said.

Shen Yun’s live orchestra is a unique combination of traditional Chinese instruments and a classic Western ensemble.

“The music transported us. It is really very elegant, sensational, great emotions,” Mr. Vezzulli said.

Lila Krimetli Vezzulli, Mr. Vezzulli’s wife appreciated the way Shen Yun combined music, dance, and the traditions of China.

“I think [Shen Yun] is very spiritual. I really like the way it is presented, with the music, the costumes. The message is given in a very spiritual way. For me, it is like going back to our roots. I like it very much. I had not expected something so spiritual,” said Mrs. Vezzulli.

The couple was struck by the energy that they felt from Shen Yun.

“There was this energy talking,” said Mr. Vezzulli.

Mrs. Vezzulli elaborated by saying, “There was this peaceful energy. But it was like a message that they want to give. That’s how I felt.”

Paola Baravalle, a director of a company, was also at the performance. She shared that she had expectations for Shen Yun, and she wasn’t disappointed.

“I had very high expectations and I must say that they have been met. There is magic, movement, and delicacy, in all the aspects we have seen, which are rarely also found in our shows, in our culture ... this mix between tradition and surprise ... I find it very interesting,” Ms. Baravalle said.

Shen Yun’s singers are trained in the bel canto technique, and the animated backdrop provides a translation of the Chinese text being sung.

“I am a person who believes a lot in the importance of traditions and in bringing back to life what is good and beautiful from the past. The tenor first sang a very intense song about the importance of finding goodness again. I believe that good and goodness will save humanity. It’s nice that they can also be transmitted through these forms of art,” she said.
