SEATTLE—Shen Yun Performing Arts made it’s way to Seattle’s Marion Oliver McCaw Hall for the company’s ninth year of worldwide performance.
Liane Olsan, a personal trainer, attended Shen Yun on April 9, and was immersed into the special energy that Shen Yun emanates at each performance.
“I thought it was wonderful. It was a magical experience,” she said. “It was outstanding, the dancing, the music. I loved the combination.”
“The whole thing was just marvelous, really.”
Shen Yun seeks to revive 5,000 years of genuine Chinese culture, a culture that was nearly destroyed at the hands of the communist regime. And even though the performance company cannot be seen in China today, Shen Yun spans the globe each year, delivering ancient gems of music and dance, uplifting audiences.
“The dancing was just extraordinary,” Ms. Olsan said, noting that she was especially touched by the way the dancers integrated with the digital backdrop. “That was the magical part I thought,” she said. “ I realize it is technology and it is skill in terms of the dancers and their performances.”
And though she’s attended many dance performances in the past, she felt that Shen Yun was different in terms of “the uniqueness of the filming, and the integration of it is just something I’ve never seen before. So it was delightful.”
With its highly skilled dancers, Shen Yun is the world’s foremost leader in classical Chinese dance, an art form that’s been tempered for thousands of years—and at the heart of what Shen Yun does. Yet, it’s through the dance and the immersion of a state-of-the-art digital backdrop that the stage extends, “transporting the audience to a world where heaven and earth are one,” according the Shen Yun’s website.
For Ms. Olsan, it was the sheer harmony of these facets that affected her most profoundly. “It was just a wonderful experience,” she said. “It is the kind of thing I'd like to take my grandchildren to see and share with people.”
