“It’s really beautiful, very touching, and elegant. ... I really like the Chinese music, and especially in combination with the costumes, colors, and dance. Simply amazing,” said Mr. Haas.
“If you recognize today’s China, then it’s an incredible shame that so much of the [traditional] culture has been lost. Whether it’s culture or buildings, it’s such a pity.”
“[Those ladies] danced elegantly, and especially their costumes are very beautiful,” praised Mrs. Haas, a lawyer.
She reaffirmed the significance of Shen Yun’s efforts to revive Chinese culture.
“China has a lot of history and tradition, which is deeply rooted in the people. This is their identity. Culture is always identity that needs to be preserved,” said Mrs. Haas.
“[The performance was] so powerful, colorful, and joyful, although there were sad topics in it too,” said Ms. Buchmann, a project coordinator.
The family was particularly pleased to see Shen Yun’s musicians. The live orchestra consists of a classic Western orchestra that includes traditional Chinese instruments.
“Having live music is a great experience,” said Mr. Hofmann, the managing director of Bosch Sensors.
Mr. Hofmann also shared that he has always been interested in Asian culture since he often travels to Asia for work reasons.
“It’s nice to see something traditional again. It’s not something you see every day,” said Mr. Hofmann.
Shen Yun is also a reminder of what is truly important in life. Ms. Buchmann shared that she saw the importance of having values in the performance.
“In daily life, people tend to forget what is important. Today we have the opportunity to immerse ourselves in this ancient, value-filled life again. It’s really good,” she said.
“It was really a wonderful day with my family, a relaxing afternoon, colorful and joyful,” said Ms. Buchmann.
“I used to be a competitive [ballroom] dancer, which means I might see [Shen Yun] from a different perspective. To me, it’s very engaging,” said Wolf-Peter Langner, who now owns a tax office.
“I’ve already been to the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow. The styles of dance are very different. Russian dance pays great attention to strength and tension, while [classical Chinese dance] is more smooth and soft. As a dancer, I find it very interesting,” said Mr. Langner, whose wife is Russian.
Audience members often compliment Shen Yun’s dancers on their discipline. Every rehearsal, the artists iron out even the smallest ripples to give the audience the best experience.
Mr. Langner was also impressed by the synchronization of the dancers.
“With so many dancers on stage, it is almost impossible to make every hand movement, every foot movement and every turn at the same time. I haven’t seen that anywhere else either. But this one comes pretty close to absolute perfection,” said Mr. Langner.
