NAGOYA, Japan—It surely wasn’t a disappointment when Sumimoto Kazuhiro and his wife traveled over 70 miles to a full-house show for the opening night of Shen Yun’s tour of Japan 2016 on April 19. After attending the performance, he urged more Japanese to come see the performance.
“The movements were elegant and graceful. And the coordination among dancers was perfect. Never have I seen a beautiful performance like this,” said Mr. Kazuhiro, a professor from Tsuruga Nursing University.
Mr. Kazuhiro said that it was his first time to see Shen Yun perform: “I was really touched by the effect of backdrops. The timing of characters came out of the backdrops was perfect. It was indeed very interesting,” he said.
According to Shen Yun’s official website, “With state-of-the-art graphics technology, Shen Yun’s digital-backdrop team creates vividly animated settings, extending the stage and transporting the audience to a world where heaven and earth are one.”
He highly praised Shen Yun’s unique live orchestra, saying, “The live music was also terrific. With the blending of Chinese instruments, including erhu, and Western musical instruments, the live music was very beautiful and overwhelming,” he added.
“All-original compositions draw upon five millennia of culture and legends. Western strings, percussion, woodwinds, and brass accentuate the sound of ancient Chinese instruments—like the two-stringed erhu and the plucked pipa. Never before have the exquisite beauty of Chinese melodies and the grandeur of a Western symphony been so seamlessly combined,” according to Shen Yun’s website.
Mr. Kazuhiro said that the themes implied in the performance were very meaningful and educational for the younger generation. “I hope that more young Japanese can come see the show,” he said.
