LOS ANGELES—Shen Yun Performing Arts gave a memorable performance at the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE on Saturday, March 22.

In attendance was Renee Jones, a veteran actress and former model for the prestigious Ford Models. She recently retired after setting a broadcasting record as the longest-running African-American female character on television, with 20 years on the soap opera Days of Our Lives.

“I absolutely love this show,” she said. “I love the way the story is told, I love the colorful costumes, the women and the men are filled with such grace. I’m floored. I love it.”

Shen Yun Performing Arts aims to revive the true, divinely inspired culture of China through classical Chinese dance, a live orchestra with both Eastern and Western instruments, musical soloists, intricate costumes, and a vibrant digital backdrop that complements the performance, according to the organization’s website.

The non-profit performing arts organization is completely independent of the Chinese regime and was established in New York in 2006.

Ms. Jones said she enjoyed the peacefulness and beauty of a Shen Yun dance piece featuring the symbolism of the lotus flower. She said it inspired her to start a meditation practice.

“I need to start meditating,” she said. “It reminded me that I need to start meditating again.”

 Shen Yun Has a Profound Spiritual Message

Also in attendance at the Shen Yun performance was semi-retired real estate professional Melbourne Smith, who specializes in luxury homes and estates.

“I love the show,” said Mr. Smith. “Love the meaning behind the show, loved the subtext of the show, of the love that’s within humanity. Although it may be blocked out in some countries right now, it exists.”

Shen Yun cannot be seen in China today, where traditional beliefs have been uprooted and ancient treasures destroyed, bringing 5,000 years of civilization to the brink of extinction.

Mr. Smith was very impressed with Shen Yun’s digital backdrop, which interacts with the performers in unique ways, allowing the artists to appear to do extraordinary feats.

“I love the way that they basically infused the multimedia with it,” he said. “It gave the audience a much better understanding of the significance of the mythology that they were presenting. It’s lovely.”

Mr. Smith said he felt Shen Yun had a profound spiritual message, and he appreciated it very much.

“It was a universal spiritual message,” he said. “I think that within all of us exists that mystical spirituality, which is our real self or our home. We may not know it, and we may be caught here in the phenomenal world of mystery, but it’s there. Any of us that are awakening to that fact, it’s a beautiful awakening, so when any of us see a presentation like that where that’s the main theme of the show, it’s rewarding.”

“Come and see it,” he added.
