COSTA MESA, Calif.—The audience was delighted with the performance of Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts on April 16.

Mary Nguyen, an attorney and former Miss Teenage-America, said, “I think it’s wonderful. It’s beautiful, the dancing, and I love the stories. And it’s just absolutely amazing, breathtaking.

Ms. Nguyen expressed her interest in history and how Shen Yun’s storytelling presents China’s ancient culture going back thousands of years.

“It gives you so much history and perspective,” she said. “I love it.”

She thought that all the dance stories were intriguing. “I think it’s interesting for everybody. Each dance has a story, and it’s telling a version [from China’s ancient culture]. I like all of them because everything is so different and it characterizes something,” Ms. Nguyen said.

Ms. Nguyen appreciated how Shen Yun hosts appear before each dance to give a short description of the story.

“I love the fact that there’s an English speaker as well as a Chinese person speaking,” she said.

“It’s very interesting to hear about how the dancers learn and how they go through so much of the training, and it’s very interesting they’re in New York, as well.”

With eight troupes now touring around the world, Shen Yun is praised for its artistic excellence.

“I think it’s very important because this brings a sense of the arts, and it brings information [to the world]. Touring everywhere helps people understand the culture in the dance. The theatrics, the level of the dance, and the culture really is important so people understand and learn about other people and other cultures,” Ms. Nguyen said.

“It is a sold-out show. People love it. There’s people of all ethnicities that are here and that really appreciate the value of this cultural show and the artistic values,” she said.

She called it “just a beautiful, artistic, cultural show.”
