NASHVILLE, Tenn.—A retired Hollywood costume designer brought a party of ten to see Shen Yun at Tennessee Performing Arts Center, (TPAC,) on Feb. 22.

Christy Haines said, “So the costumes here were absolutely beautiful, yes.” Speaking as an expert, she said with emphasis, “Yes, from a Hollywood costume designer, the costumes were absolutely beautiful, yes.”

Ms. Haines’ costume credits include Last Dance, Miss All—American Beauty, Poison Ivy, and Stark: Mirror Image.

Surrounded by her relatives in the lobby of Andrew Jackson Hall, she said, “All the different times periods and all the different areas of the country, you could see each one developed in the costume designs.”

According to the Shen Yun website, “Shen Yun’s costume artists collect countless designs of traditional attire, ranging from those of emperors, ministers, and generals to the everyday clothing of the common people. They use bright colors to tailor and recreate hundreds of new pieces each season. Every detail is given meticulous attention and is a result of artistic inspiration and careful polishing.”

Ms. Haines appreciated the care and skill that went into the Shen Yun costumes. She said, “They were all just so beautifully executed and so lovely. The costumes were made part of the story. They were just very elegant.”

Beside the costumes, she said she was impressed by “the choreography. Everyone was one in everything. Everyone worked together so beautifully and smoothly. You could tell that they were a team.”

Ms. Haines came to the performance with her two sisters, their mother, and all their daughters. The group came from Colorado Massachussetts, Arkansas, Missouri, and Tennessee. They were having a family gathering and chose to make Shen Yun part of the event.
