ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—Peter Hall, a business owner, watched Shen Yun Performing Arts for the first time at the Duke Energy Center for the Arts – Mahaffey Theater on Jan. 19.
“I love the show,” Mr. Hall said.
Since its inception in 2006, New York-based Shen Yun has grown from one to eight equally-sized companies that tour the world simultaneously, realizing its mission to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization and show the world what China was like before communism through classical Chinese dance and music.
Mr. Hall said that what impressed him the most were “the orchestration, the timing, the dance moves.”
"The costumes are elegant, [and] ... traditional, and it just makes the show,” he added.
Attending the performance with Mr. Hall was Marietta Hall, a registered nurse who had already seen the performance six times.Ms. Hall praised Shen Yun’s patented animated backdrop, which allows performers to move seamlessly between the stage and background, and also shared that what kept bringing her back to the theater to see Shen Yun year after year was “the authentic music” together with the impressive leaps, flips, and other tumbling techniques of classical Chinese dance.
Ms. Hall commented on the performance’s visuals and the performers‘ commitment as well.
“I love the color selection and the synchronization,“ she said. ”You see that there is a lot of practicing behind the scenes and so ... everything is so perfectly matching.”
