KITCHENER, Canada—Scott Lunau wasn’t sure he could make it to see Shen Yun Performing Arts when it comes to Toronto in January, so he drove to Kitchener and took in the performance at Centre In The Square on Dec. 29.
“So far we love the show,” he said during the intermission.
“The dancers are so finely in tune with each other and the music and the spiritual, all combined. The spectacle is very well put together. Obviously they trained a lot for this and they’re very good.”
Mr. Lunau is a farm marketer, apple grower, and owner of Albion Orchards and a retail store in Caledon, Ontario. Albion was featured in Chatelaine Magazine as one of the top four orchards in Canada for over four years. The business includes a pumpkin patch and hosts school tours in the fall season.
He came to see Shen Yun’s renowned presentation of classical Chinese dance and music with his girlfriend, Laura Allpress, and his two children.
“We were just commenting on how well it’s orchestrated, especially the backdrops where the onstage dancers disappear and then they go onto the screen. It’s done really really well,” said Ms. Allpress, an investment adviser with TD Wealth.
Ms. Allpress was referring to Shen Yun’s signature animated backdrops that come alive to enhance the story-based dances.
Shen Yun, with its mission of reviving the Middle Kingdom’s authentic traditional culture through the performing arts, has drawn top talent from around the world; many artists are winners of international competitions in dance, choreography, and music, according to its website.
“It’s enjoyable, it’s a good show,” said Mr. Lunau.
As a part of its 2015 world tour, Shen Yun will play in over 100 cities on five continents, gracing some of the world’s most prestigious stages such as New York’s Lincoln Center, Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center, and Paris’s Palais des Congrès de Paris.
