BRUSSELS—Director of Corporate and External Relations, Kerstin Born-Sirkel, said she hadn’t seen a performance of such high quality for a long time. She saw New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts at the National Theatre April 6..
“I was told that this is the performance about the true Chinese culture, therefore I came,” she said. “I was totally impressed. For a long time, I haven’t seen such good quality.
She found beauty in the artist’s pride in their culture. “I think I am rather touched by the pride. It was good. It was rich in the show.”
Ms. Born-Sirkel also admired the musical fusion of the Shen Yun Orchestra, saying, “they build a bridge.”
“Ancient instruments like the two-stringed erhu, the plucked pipa, and a range of Chinese percussion instruments lead the melody on top of a full Western orchestra—strings, woodwinds, and brass—creating a refreshing, new sound,” according to the program book.
Speaking of the colorful legends, myths, and history adapted into dance, Ms. Born-Sirkel said the Shen Yun performance “was just fantastic.”
“What I particularly liked was that it opens the door to the traditional China. Because I don’t know a lot about [China], I am trying to understand it better. People I met told me I needed to come. So I came and I loved it. It was really being great. “
