PARIS—A balmy early spring and a warm audience welcomed Shen Yun Performing Arts for their first show in the city of lights.

After Geneva, Berlin, Amsterdam and Frankfurt, the largest classical Chinese dance company located outside China stopped at the Palais des Congrès in Paris for four performances, before continuing on its European tour.

Among the enthusiastic audience was Beatriz La Riva, director of a high-end jewelery boutique on Place Vendôme.

Sensitive to beauty, Ms. La Riva especially enjoyed the show’s sumptuous costumes, describing them as having refinement and being full of subtleties.

Indeed, handmade costumes represent different dynasties in the 5,000 years of Chinese history as well as its different ethnic groups: Mongolia’s courageous warriors, the joyful girls of the Yao people in southwest China, and Manchu princesses and peasants on the Yellow River, according to Shen Yun’s website.

Ms. La Riva was also enchanted by the purity emanating from the show and the tremendous energy radiating from the dancers, which she found to be “this special energy, in the sense of what exists in Falun Dafa: tolerance and patience.”

The company’s presentation of the persecution of Falun Dafa in China, a traditional spiritual movement whose members live according to the universal principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, was highlighted in a couple of story dances.

According to the website, New York-based Shen Yun has committed itself to the revival of the true divinely inspired Chinese culture. The company is not limited to the high quality of the classically trained dancer’s techniques and the breathtaking scenery projected on beautiful animated backdrops. It also wishes to convey traditional Chinese culture and values such as courage, benevolence, loyalty. With its stunning music and dance, Shen Yun brings to life this beautiful culture.

Ms. La Riva was moved by “the message of tolerance and beauty of the human being. I think it’s a great message that Shen Yun is bringing to the eyes of the world,” she concluded.
