DENVER—Whether you watch or just listen with your eyes closed, the peace in Shen Yun Performing Arts can’t be missed.

“When you close your eyes and hear that music, it’s a spiritual experience. And then when you open them and see the colors and the dancing, you can feel the spirituality of what they’re trying to accomplish. No question. You can see and you can feel it,” said Steve Doherty, director of client services at a tax company.

Shen Yun’s music combines a Western orchestra with traditional Chinese instruments, creating a sound that is both familiar yet engaging.

“I think the music is incredibly powerful, and I think the dancing is just unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. Absolutely marvelous,” said Mr. Doherty.

Many audience members praise Shen Yun for its beautiful color combinations. The backdrop and the costumes work together with the dance and music to give audiences the best experience.

“The mix of the colors, integrated with the dancing, integrated with the music. It just contributes to a sense of just feeling good, and it’s really different. It’s really beautiful,” said Mr. Doherty.

Shen Yun’s digital backdrop is a patented technology that allows each dance to change scenes without the use of bulky props.

“The backdrops are fantastic. It’s different. Usually, you see stage props and things like that. To actually have a cinematic background mixed with the dancers is pretty incredible. That’s cool,” said Mr. Doherty.

Between work and family, it’s not easy to find time to just relax and take in beauty. But with Shen Yun, Mr. Doherty was able to do just that.

“[Shen Yun] makes me just feel very alive—very relaxed. It’s just beautiful. It’s so different. We’re not used to seeing stuff like that. It has such a different impact on your senses than you’re used to—the normal stuff we look at on a daily basis,” he said.
