SYDNEY—Jan Trevitt and her daughter Belinda saw Shen Yun Performing Arts for the third time on April 16. Jan’s mother bought the tickets as a birthday present for Belinda. It’s becoming an annual treat as Belinda is a dancer and dance teacher, so she is “interested in the dancing, the singing and the costumes,” she said.

“Their skills, they’re absolutely stunning. The ladies legs are so flexible. And their feet are so beautiful. They have such great pointed feet,” said Belinda.

“The men are amazing as well, with all the jumping and their acrobatic skills.”

Classical Chinese dance is at the heart of Shen Yun, but also includes folk and ethnic dance. The company’s website explains that classical Chinese dance is “known for its incredible flips and spins, and its gentle elegance; it is one of the most rigorous and expressive art forms in the world.”

Belinda said, “I really like the acrobatics and how flexible the girls are and how they managed to jump up so high in the air. And you’re just in awe of their ability.”

“It’s very inspiring because they make you want to be a dancer when you watch them.”

Jan, currently studying music business in TAFE, also appreciated the Shen Yun performance.

She said the dancing was “very very good. It’s very magical.”

She added that the costumes were, “Very pretty! Very colourful! Very beautiful!”
