MIAMI—On Jan. 10, company vice president Juan Carlos enjoyed a new cultural experience. Although his career has taken him to many countries, he has yet to visit China—a destination on his bucket list. Attending Shen Yun’s evening show at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, Mr. Carlos got a taste of traditional Chinese culture for the first time.

“I was impressed by the whole setup—the dancing, the orchestra, and also the discipline that the Chinse culture has,” he said.

“Being with different cultures, being with different people in the same place and [seeing] people enjoying cultural diversity and respecting each other, it’s good.”

Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company. Presenting a brand-new set of programs each year, the company has been delighting audiences around the world since 2006.
In the decades since the communist regime seized power, Chinese culture was forced to the brink of extinction. These New York-based artists are now seeking to revive China’s 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture and showcase to the world, the beauty of China before communism.

Mr. Carlos thought the traditional values presented in the performance were very important “for the kids today and for people to see.”

“I like to explore and see something new and I tell people that they need to see this show because they need to learn about other countries and other cultures,” he added.

Also in the audience were Sophia Bianchi, a theater director, and Peter Doremus, a real estate developer. The couple, too, thought the show was impressive and very positive.

“The dancing was beautiful, the music was amazing, and the history behind the story is also very significant, especially in today’s times. What wins all the time? Love,” Mr. Doremus explained.

“I think the colors and the dancing and the music have a lot of emotions attached to them. It’s just very elegant how it’s done.”

Ms. Bianchi loved Shen Yun’s scenography. It gave her “a sensation that we are in heaven—very powerful and full of colors.”

“All the performers did amazing work. They have talent and passion that we observe. It’s amazing the way that they work in a group, very coordinated,” she stated.

Reflecting on the spiritual aspect of the performance, Mr. Doremus said it was “full of inspiration,” and he’s amazed by “how significant the message is.”

“It’s okay to stand up against evil and want change for everybody for the better,” he said.

Ms. Bianchi said that Shen Yun showed that we should “focus on what’s important and the divinity.”

“I feel relief watching the show, I couldn’t let it go,” she added. “Impressions, memories that every human being carries in your body for the society—[Shen Yun] is very significant. So, we will recommend this beautiful show.”
