ATLANTA—Todd Jeska, director of a healthcare company, watched Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on Feb. 2.

“It was elaborate,” Mr. Jeska said. “The colors, the technique, [and the] dancing were so intricate and amazing.”

New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company. Since its inception in 2006, Shen Yun’s mission has been to revive traditional Chinese culture and show audiences the beauty of “China before communism.”
Mr. Jeska was impressed by “the precision and the nimbleness” of the dancers and “found the music fascinating.”

“I was amazed [by] the instrument that had two strings,” he said, referring to the Chinese erhu that is part of Shen Yun’s live orchestra, which features a unique combination of traditional Chinese and Western instruments.

Shen Yun’s program also includes songs sung by virtuosos in the traditional bel canto technique. Mr. Jeska complimented the singer for “his control and his commanding presence.”
Mr. Jeska said that Shen Yun’s patented animated backdrop caught him by surprise. A fan-favorite, the backdrop allows performers to move seamlessly between the stage and a limitless realm of animated possibilities.

“At first, I found myself asking, how do they do that? I found it really amazing. Quite an experience how they integrated that into the show.”
