GWACHEON, South Korea—“I’ll actively promote (Shen Yun), so that people in Gunpo City are able to see this performance next year,” Gunpo City Council Deputy Speaker Lee Moonsub exclaimed, after he watched the Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company’s final show at Gwacheon Citizen Hall on the afternoon of Feb. 13.
“After seeing the performance, I feel like I’ve been to the divine realm.”
Shen Yun aims to restore 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture through music and dance.
Amazed by the perfect combination of dynamic backdrops and dances, he said, “The backdrops and the performance on the stage were seamlessly synchronized. The plot included the legends in heaven and on earth. The scenes regarding dancers coming to stage from backdrops are really wonderful. Upon the deities descended to the earth from heaven, performers appeared on the stage. It’s indeed very interesting.”
Enthralled by the performance, he said, “I often see performing arts. When seeing other two-hour performances, I might feel bored from time to time. But I never felt bored at all throughout the show. What I saw today was a new form of performance. I kept staring at the performance continuously.”
“Both the traditional Chinese culture and its spiritual values were included in the performance. In this regard, I was very much impressed. I hoped that other local governments can participate in the arrangements for such performances.”
Lee Moonsub was introduced to Shen Yunby by a friend. He said, “I’ve never seen such a performance. It’s indeed very wonderful. The costumes are very splendid and fully demonstrate Chinese people’s diverse characteristics. Every actor is really excellent. They seemed to be good at martial arts. They are really very outstanding, and the show is really very gorgeous.”
“I was told that it [Shen Yun] is touring the world. I think it would be great if Shen Yun could perform in more cities in Korea. I would like to promote Shen Yun and recommend it to people around me. I hope that it can bring such high level performance to people in Gunpo. I look forward to the realization of my wish.”
Beautiful Music and Splendid Costumes
Mr. Cheng Yinsan, president of the Korean Traditional Dance Preservation Society and the Agricultural Preservation Association exclaimed, “Today, I am delighted to be here with so many celebrities.”
During the intermission, he spoke highly of Shen Yun’s magnificence, saying, “Shen Yun revives the traditional Chinese culture, and the choreography is perfect.”
“It’s indeed a spectacular performance with beautiful music and splendid costumes. Not only are the performers well trained, but their skills and coordination are perfect.”
The heart of Shen Yun is dance, classical Chinese dance, with its own training in basic skills, physical expression, and postures, leaps, flips, spins and other difficult tumbling techniques. Together these form an extensive and independent dance system, states the company’s website.
“If would be great if we could see this kind of performances more often. I really feel like seeing it again. I am so enthralled that I even feel like learning [traditional Chinese dance], so as to get more insight into traditional Chinese dance.”
His friend who came to the show with him also marveled at Shen Yun’s superb performances. He said, “As I am in the dance profession, I am very interested in it. My son even holds a PhD. degree in dance.”
He stressed that he certainly would recommend Shen Yun to his friends, saying, “This is the performance that’s reviving the traditional Chinese culture.”
