TAINAN, Taiwan—Shen Yun Performing Arts drew packed crowds in Tainan on April 11 and 12 at the city’s cultural center and attracted prominent figures from across southern Taiwan.
Kuan-yu Chen, a company CEO, has seen New York-based Shen Yun 10 times. He shared that seeing Shen Yun has even improved his career.
“After seeing it so many times, I’ve noticed an improvement in my interpersonal relationships and my awareness across various industries,” Mr. Chen said.
Every year, Shen Yun puts on an all-new production so although Mr. Chen has seen the performance 10 times, every season is brand new.
“The dance, combined with the original composition, is truly stunning. Its profound meaning is something you can’t experience in other performances, which is why every year I invite our team to watch with me,” he said.
He said that Shen Yun’s live performance, with its unique combination of dance, music, and dynamic backdrops, offers a more immersive and intuitive experience compared to other performances, allowing the audience to engage their imagination in new ways.
Although Shen Yun is sharing the beauty of Chinese culture with the world, it is unable to perform in China.
“The Chinese Communist Party wants to control the people. They fear losing their grip on power and want everyone to think the same way. Simply put, they don’t want any voices of dissent that could undermine their interests,” Mr. Chen said.
Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization. Mr. Chen found that seeing Shen Yun made him understand more about himself, which is exactly what the Chinese Communist Party doesn’t want.
Music Educator: Shen Yun Feels Like a Journey Through Time and History

“It was a deeply moving experience. ... It felt like traveling through 5,000 years of Chinese history—an unforgettable journey,” said Yang Shang-Ju, a music professor.
“I haven’t seen a performance like this in years,” he said. “It brought back childhood memories, and it’s amazing to experience them again.”
Shen Yun’s live orchestra is a unique combination of traditional Chinese instruments and a classic Western ensemble.
“There’s a seamless fusion of Eastern and Western instruments, and an incredibly refined sound. It elevated the choreography beautifully. ... Every melody and movement showed deep respect for traditional culture,” Mr. Yang said.
In ancient China, music came before medicine. Mr. Yang found that Shen Yun’s music has a powerful, positive energy.
“This kind of music carries a powerful, positive energy. It’s a kindness that is rooted in the values of traditional Chinese culture,” he said.
Shen Yun’s use of its digital backdrop is patented. The versatility of technology allows the set to change scenes in the blink of an eye, giving the stage endless possibilities.
“It was absolutely amazing! A perfect blend of tradition and innovation. I’ve never seen anything presented so well—I was truly impressed by how beautifully it all came together,” Mr. Yang said.
