MELBOURNE, Australia—Engineering business owner, Andrew Miles experiences a snap shot of Chinese history through the spectacle of Shen Yun Performing Arts performance at the State Theatre, Arts Centre Melbourne, on Friday night March 28.

Mr. Miles was accompanied by some Chinese friends who brought their parents, recently arrived from China, along to the performance.

They were very happy accept the invitation and to experience the wonder of the New York based Shen Yun.

“They’re enjoying it very much,” he said.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5000 years of civilization through its performances.

According to Shen Yun’s website, “for 5,000 years divine culture flourished in the land of China. Humanity’s treasure was nearly lost, but through breathtaking music and dance, Shen Yun is bringing back this glorious culture.”

Shen Yun reminded Mr. Miles of the long history or China, he acknowledged the effort of “maintaining the traditions, the effort in maintaining the history,” he said.

He really appreciated Shen Yun’s depiction of the history.

“It’s the spectacle … you can feel the history,” he said.

“Shen Yun’s mini-drama pieces draw upon stories and legends that span China’s history from the Yellow Emperor and through the Tang and Song dynasties and all the way to the modern day. This provides Shen Yun with vast source material, making it possible to revive this ancient culture on a present-day stage,” the website explains.

Mr. Miles was particularly impressed with the skill of the dancers in the performance in his comments.

“Their movements are perfection. As a group, to catch so many dancers moving together—I sit back and I appreciate the skill.”

The energy of the dancers made a big impression on Mr. Miles.

“The colour, the culture, the energy that comes through. The movement, the energy that the dancers have in their movement and the teamwork, the training that’s gone behind it; certainly, I appreciate that,” he said.

According to the website, “Chinese dance is at the heart of what Shen Yun does. Known for its incredible flips and spins, and its gentle elegance, it is one of the most rigorous and expressive art forms in the world.”

All facets of the performance enraptured him.

“The sounds, the music, the orchestra—it’s been very, very well done and I’m pleased we’ve come along,” he said.
