MELBOURNE, Australia—The final performance for Shen Yun Performing Arts at the State Theatre, Arts Centre Melbourne was a huge success, packed house, spontaneous audience applause, an encore from the soprano soloist, and a curtain call.

Susan Learner, philanthropy services manager at the Australian Ballet was there to experience the wonder of the New York-based Shen Yun.

“It was beautiful! Costumes! Beautiful dancing!” Ms. Learner said.

“Chinese dance is at the heart of what Shen Yun does. Known for its incredible flips and spins, and its gentle elegance, it is one of the most rigorous and expressive art forms in the world,” the company’s website explains.

“A really enjoyable and beautiful show.”

Ms. Learner appreciated the orchestra with its unique sounds saying, “The orchestra was fantastic.”

According to the Shen Yun website “The Shen Yun Orchestra combines the spirit, beauty, and distinctiveness of Chinese music with the precision, power, and grandeur of the Western symphony orchestra. The result—two great traditions producing one refreshing sound.”

Shen Yun presents classical Chinese dance, folk and ethnic dance, mini-drama pieces and solo singing performances. Ms. Learner was delighted with the mini-dramas giving her an insight into five millennia of Chinese history.

“It was really lovely seeing all the different stories and learning a bit about the culture,” she said.

“Shen Yun’s mini-drama pieces draw upon stories and legends that span China’s history from the Yellow Emperor and through the Tang and Song dynasties and all the way to the modern day,” the Shen Yun website explains.

“That just showed a bit more. So it was really enjoyable.”

Ms. Learner said, “Lovely to see it in an art form because I love art forms, so it was really a lovely way to show it.”
