SAN JOSE—Jan Telesky first saw Shen Yun Performing Arts in 2006, the year of its inception, and has been a frequent return audience member ever since.
“There isn’t any other production that even remotely resembles this,” she said on Dec. 27 at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts, the same venue in which she first saw the performing arts group.
The performance is much more than dance, bringing to life legends and heroes from five millennia and showing the reemergence of traditional Chinese culture in the modern day.
Audience members often marvel at the innovative stagecraft that accompanies the thousands-of-years-old classical Chinese dance, which includes the use of a digital backdrop so unique Shen Yun holds multiple patents.
“The merging of the video and the background with what’s going on on stage is miraculous. It’s just so creative, and the dancing is wonderful,” Ms. Telesky said. “I don’t think there’s any other group of any kind of dancing that is so synchronous as Shen Yun is.”
“I just look at how creative and how beautiful all the dancers are, and their outfits and everything is,” Ms. Telesky said. “It’s so fluid and gorgeous. I just absolutely love it.
“It’s fabulous and it'll probably be the best dancing they ever saw anywhere, regardless of the style of dance,” she said.
