BERKELEY—William and Sharon Benet attended a Shen Yun performance at Zellerbach Hall on Jan. 10. Art dealers by profession, they were both amazed by Shen Yun’s visual effects as well as the spiritual depth.
Mr. Benet said that the art they saw was beautiful, and that “the colors were amazing.” Mrs. Benet continued, “They’re so vibrant and all of the color combinations and the patterns and the attention to detail is incredible.”
Mr. Benet thought the costume design was incredible.
Mrs. Benet said, “The way that the dancers move in their outfits, it’s absolutely incredible.”
Shen Yun’s patented technology, the 3D animated backdrop creates seamless interaction between projection and performers on stage, instantly putting the audience members on the scene.
“The scenery, the digital art has been fascinating to watch,” said Mrs. Benet. “Their interactiveness has been very interesting. You feel like you’re involved in it, while you’re watching it.”
Mr. Benet thought the performance was “heavenly and spiritual.” He was very impressed by the solo performance of the soprano, especially the lyrics that were projected on the backdrop.
Mrs. Benet was also moved by the lyrics, “It was absolutely beautiful. The soprano singing ... and seeing what they were saying ... we were mesmerized by it. We felt that we had a good takeaway from being able to read the words and hear the song. Yeah it was absolutely beautiful.”
Mr. Benet said, “It was very moving and informative, it made me think of many spiritual experiences.”
In terms of Shen Yun’s mission of reviving the traditional culture, Mr. Benet said, “I think it’s extremely important. We can’t lose what made us who we are.”
Mrs. Benet added, “It’s important to embrace your culture so that you don’t forget.”
