JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—Michael Dudley, an anesthesiologist, enjoyed the beauty of the Shen Yun performance at the Jacksonville Center for the Performing Arts on Jan. 22.

“It’s so beautiful. Love it!” he said. “It’s nice to see the traditions.”

Dr. Dudley not only enjoyed the beauty of the performance but also learned about China’s rich history despite it almost being lost under the rule of the Chinese Communist Party.

“[I learned] how the Chinese culture is probably more than what we see today, [with] years of history, how it’s muted by communism,” he said.

New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company that tours hundreds of cities annually, presenting the beauty and goodness of Chinese culture before communism. Shen Yun’s story dances draw inspiration from China’s history and what’s happening in modern-day China.

Dr. Dudley said the story that touched him the most was the one depicting how practitioners of Falun Dafa, a spiritual discipline, face persecution in China today with courage and faith.

“That was touching. I actually teared up a little bit during that part,” he said.

“I think it was the last part, where they were speaking of reincarnation and everything like that, that was touching too.”

Mr. Dudley also enjoyed the innovative digital backdrop. To see the dancers “jumping in and out of the background was so exciting,” he said, “It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen.”
