VENICE, Fla.—Shen Yun Performing Arts shared traditional Chinese culture to a delighted audience at the Venice Performing Arts Center on Jan. 26.

Scott and Tracy Kurecki enjoyed the performance immensely. Mrs. Kurecki, an advertising executive, said New York-based Shen Yun was “very entertaining.”

“It’s a lot of fun to see all the different groups and cultures and dance,” she said.

Mr. Kurecki, a podiatrist, found Shen Yun and its stories very engaging.

“I think it’s very interesting,” he said. “It’s very well performed.”

The couple were enthralled by the skill and beauty of the dancers. “It’s amazing to watch. The costumes are fun. The colors are fabulous,” Mrs. Kurecki said.
Mrs. Kurecki was also amazed at Shen Yun’s patented 3D interactive backdrop, which extends the stage endlessly.

“The 3D interaction is really neat. I’ve never seen anything like it. I think it’s very clever the way that they’re able to [interact with the screen]. Their timing is impeccable and so very well-rehearsed. Very well done,” she said.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive China’s traditional classical culture and history of 5,000 years to present “China before communism.”

On stage, the hosts give a short introduction to the dances with some background on the characters and the story.

“I didn’t know any of these stories before, so they’re all new to me,” Mrs. Kurecki said. “But I think it’s great the way that the narrators introduce it before each individual performance. And then you get to watch it and understand what it’s all about.”

Mrs. Kurecki said Shen Yun’s spiritual message was new to her and a lot to take in. “There’s a lot to learn, a lot to absorb. It’s a learning experience as much as it is a performance,” she said.

A soprano and tenor, singing in the bel canto style, performed for the audience. “The singers are fabulous. I mean, that was really opera and spiritual, and they did a fantastic job,” Mrs. Kurecki said.

“[Their performance] is great exposure. We don’t really have a lot around that is like this. So the fact that they get to come to Venice, and we get to see it, is really exciting, and it brings a lot of culture.”

An audience favorite was the Tibetan dance performed by Shen Yun’s male dancers. “That was great,” Mrs. Kurecki said. “The costumes were fantastic, and the backdrop was fantastic. I enjoyed the group performance and the solo performance. It was excellent.”
There was a lot to take away from Shen Yun for Mrs. Kurecki. “Exposure to new cultures and costumes, and the history. It’s been fun.”

Mr. Kurecki agreed wholeheartedly. “It’s just very entertaining. It’s nice to see cultural arts from elsewhere,” he said.
