GWACHEON, South Korea—South Korea’s top actress Kim Hye-soo attended Shen Yun International Company’s performance at Gwacheon Citizen Hall on Feb. 11.

The world-renowned classical Chinese dance and music company, based in New York, travels the globe each year, showcasing traditional culture.

After seeing the performance, she said, “Shen Yun’s programs are based on authentic traditional culture. The traditional dances performed on the stage were seamlessly synchronized with the high-tech animated digital backdrops. It is really very impressive. In addition, the programs are very comprehensive and profound. It is so unique and creative that it is very appealing.”

Some dances portray ancient legends and some depict stories from China today.

In terms of the program depicting the stories about Falun Gong practitioners’ who have remained steadfast despite severe persecution in China today, Kim Hye-soo expressed that she was shocked to see the scene.

She has seen Falun Gong practitioners’ anti-persecution activities in front of the Chinese Embassy. She was quite sad when she read the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong, after searching the Internet for information at home.

The dance company, on a mission to revive 5,000 years of China’s divinely inspired culture, features many unique aspects, including an orchestra that combines classical Western instruments with Chinese instruments, animated digital backdrops, and hundreds of colorful handmade costumes.

In addition to being a well-known, top-notch actress in South Korea, Kim Hye-soo is also an outstanding singer. Her film, I Fell in Love with My Friend’s Sister has moved numerous viewers in China.

Actress: I Feel Like Keeping Clapping My Hands

Another famous actress and former Ms. Korea, Cho Hyeyoung, exclaimed that Shen Yun’s dances, costumes and colors were very beautiful. “I feel like clapping and clapping my hands.”

“Traditional Chinese culture is really very comprehensive. The dances we saw today were really very beautiful and wonderful,” she said.

“Dancers’ perfect performance, coupled with the seamless synchronization between dancers and the orchestra, made me admire them very much. In addition, their costumes were really gorgeous.”

Cho Hyeyoung also noted, “I didn’t know that it was such a strong cast with so many performers. It was truly beyond my expectation. The colors and costumes are very beautiful. Among others, the dance performed by the dancers dressed in the costumes with long sleeves (Ladies of the Tang Palace) was so beautiful that it really impressed me a lot.”

Praising the Shen Yun orchestra that accompanied the performance, she said, “They must have gone through a rigorous training and have had a lot of preparation.”

“As Asians, we may be more familiar with [the connotations of the performance]. When Western audiences see the show, they may be touched more deeply.”

Dancer: A Must-See Performance

“Every artist is outstanding, every motion is so soft and tender, brilliant. I clapped so hard. I think this is a must-see performance no matter who you are,” said Ms. Soon Seo Han, a renowned dancing artist in Korea, after seeing Shen Yun’s performance on Feb. 11 at Gwacheon Citizen Hall.

“The artists going into the background projection is especially amazing. Last year I used a lot of imaging in the work I published. Shen Yun’s imaging technology is way ahead of mine. I am very envious. I want to learn the background projection technology. Please tell the artists that I appreciate their hard work. They are all young, and there is a great future ahead of them.”

“I feel that the artists worked extremely hard and they are very serious. Every movement they did was highly skillful but they did it in a perfect way. I truly admire them.”

“I have seen a lot of dancing performances but none of them had so many artists at once like Shen Yun does,” she said.

“The background projections are a wonderful contrast for the artists. The animation is so vivid. The matching of colors on the artists’ costumes is excellent. The costumes are dazzling and breathtaking.”

“The soloists are remarkable singers. [Shen Yun] will gain more popularity in the future.”

“I believe that everyone in the dancing business should come and see Shen Yun once,” Ms. Han concluded.

Breathtaking Beauty of Shen Yun

Ms. Chung So-Young, Professor of the Department of Dance at Chungnam University, praised the performance as very pure and breathtakingly beautiful. “After seeing Shen Yun, I felt mentally purified.”

She thinks Falun Dafa is a belief needed in modern times since it is a moral force.

As a famous dance performer, Ms. Chung said as a form of art, dance has progressed farther than science, and that it will take science 1,000 years to catch up with dance. Through arts, she said, we can predict the future.

She thought of Tang Dynasty as the most beautiful era on the planet. A golden age of Chinese literature and art, the Tang Dynasty had fully developed all the styles of dance. The Tang dance presented by Shen Yun was indeed very beautiful, she said.

It had an affect on her personally, too. “Yesterday I went to Kong Kong and came back today for the show in Gwacheon, slipping in the parking lot and hurting my legs. But after seeing the Shen Yun performance, I felt purified. Even having had nothing for the whole day, I did not feel hungry.”

“The Shen Yun performance is indeed very beautiful and international. As long as people come to the performance, they will understand it—very beautiful, very pure. Shen Yun demonstrates the feelings that we are eager to have!”

To better understand Tang Dynasty dancing, Ms. Chung had been in Taiwan to learn Chinese. “Shen Yun is breathtakingly beautiful. Its beauty is beyond any description.‘Very good’ is not enough, ‘best’ is not enough, ‘by far the best’ is not enough to describe it. Greatly thankful to Shen Yun! Everyone should watch it.”
