LYON, France—Since Saturday, the sounds of Shen Yun Performing Arts have been resonating at the Amphitheater 3000 in Lyon.

On Monday evening, Fariba Yousefi was among the audience. “I love it! It is splendid! I liked it very much, it’s very interesting,” said this young Iranian actress.

New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s top classical Chinese dance and music company, and has in recent years been a sensation across Europe.

The young woman found the Shen Yun artists “very professional” and doing “a huge job.”

Taking the dancers as an example, she said: “Being a dancer and telling a story and playing a role all at the same time, all together ... It’s a great job! It’s a big job!”

Ms. Yousefi is referring to this particular aspect of classical Chinese dance: to the postures, the movements, and tumbling techniques and twists, is added the“ yun,” the expression of the deepest emotions of the dancer. With this trait, classical Chinese dance allows for storytelling without the need to speak.

“I see that they are all professionals and they have all been trained at a school in New York, I think it’s wonderful! I love it!” said the actress. Indeed, based in New York, Shen Yun was formed by a group of elite Chinese artists in 2006 to revive the rich traditional Chinese culture of 5,000 years of history.

In addition to the technical and aesthetic aspects, Ms. Yousefi was appreciative of the “good energy” transmitted by the Shen Yun artists.

“I felt the emotions coming through the dances, the stories ... and also the music, all together.”

Ms. Yousefi said she is convinced the traditional art presented by Shen Yun is essential.

“In addition to introducing the Chinese artists, the history, and of course, the artistic side, the art, all together ... I find it’s very important in this world! In the whole world ... to keep this connection with the art through the traditional history and the traditional dance of each country,” she said.
