OXFORD, UK—Shen Yun Performing Arts uplifted many in the audience at the New Theatre on Jan.23, among them former quantum physicist and now a life coach Kamna Pruvost, with her husband, Christian, a product manager at a publishing company.

“It’s a lifetime experience to come and see such a show and the culture—the Chinese culture—and the music. It’s beautiful,” Mrs. Pruvost said.

“I really like the show as well,” said Mr. Pruvost. “It’s a nice way to see the Chinese arts and culture, which has been going on for a long time and is preserved in this way.”

The mission of Shen Yun is to revive traditional Chinese culture that flourished for 5,000 years before communism. Mrs. Pruvost said she was familiar with Chinese spiritual culture.

“I study a lot of Buddhism and Eastern culture,” said Mrs. Pruvost, who also does a lot of yoga.

Mrs. Pruvost said she was amazed by the Shen Yun dancers.
“I’m aware of body movements. Seeing them, it is really amazing what they can manage to do, and it’s great training. And I think it is spiritual as well as musical and physical,” she said.

Caroline Findlay, a retired interior designer, said Shen Yun “was fabulous, relaxing, beautiful. Wonderful colors.”

Ms. Findlay was amazed at the color and brilliance of the digital backdrop that is a part of the dances. She said the screen was “great. Love it. Love it. Love it.”

Referring to the weather outside, she said: “Because it is so dark and rainy and grey, and this is a beautiful color and uplifting.”

As a designer, she said she was inspired: “Very bright colors, very exotic.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive traditional Chinese culture before communism, and this resonated with Ms. Findlay, who said she would tell a friend from China about it. “I think it’s fabulous. I really think it’s a fabulous show. And I’m gonna take one of these [programs] to a friend of mine who is a surgeon here from China,” she said.

Ms. Finley did have words of appreciation for the performers: “You are absolutely amazing. You know, the girls, they look like they’re floating. It’s fabulous.”
