NEW YORK—Shen Yun Performing Arts opened a five show run at Lincoln Center on Wed. evening, ending with three curtain calls and a standing ovation from the full house.

Mr. and Mrs. Tiedemann enjoyed the performance so much that they plan to bring friends and see it again.

“I thought it was fantastic,” said Mr. Tiedemann, Chief Investment Officer at Tiedemann Wealth Management. “[It’s] one of the most beautiful shows I’ve ever seen.”

Mrs. Tiedemann, a psychologist, concurred. “Very beautiful, wonderful message,” she said.

New York-based Shen Yun was founded in 2006, says its website, and has three performances companies and orchestras traveling the world with one mission: to revive 5,000 years of divinely inspired Chinese culture after more than 60 years of communist rule in China threatened to destroy it.

“The deeper spiritual core of the ancient culture, with its values of benevolence, honor, propriety, wisdom, and sincerity, as well as a reverence for the gods and the heavens, cannot be destroyed,” says Shen Yun’s website.

The Tiedmanns thought the dancers “were fantastic.” At the heart of Shen Yun performances, explains its website, is classical Chinese dance, an ancient art form that requires intense training and comprehensively encompasses traditions.

Mr. Tiedmann was impressed with the staging, and Mrs. Tiedmann loved the background and costumes. A digital state-of-the-art backdrop and handcrafted costumes enhance the performance so the audience sees the interaction between the dancers and the scenes.

“I see in the sea of humanity there are a lot of problems,” Mrs. Tiedmann said. “But … this was very optimistic, very unique.”

“A wonderful evening,” said Mr. Tiedmann.
