“I think these dancers are technical machines, first of all—they have so much exquisite training and discipline. It’s very exhilarating,” she exclaimed.
“I enjoy the show so much! I even got a little bit emotional. It has all these amazing layers and elements that take you on an emotional journey. I highly recommend it for anyone.”
Met with wide acclaim since its founding in 2006, the New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts has grown to include eight equally sized companies that tour simultaneously.
Ms. Tomasone was also touched by Shen Yun’s mission to revive traditions and said the performance helped her “appreciate Chinese culture and its people very much more.”
“I think it’s a show [that says] we have to appreciate the values of tradition and keep that going and strong—move forward no matter what despair may hit us or our nation.”Throughout the performance, Ms. Tomasone felt strong energy emitting from the artists on stage.
“They are dancing from their spirit and their heart. You can tell they’re passionate and they love what they do. They are born to be on that stage and inspire everybody.”
For 5,000 years, Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism formed the basis of Chinese life. The ancient people believed that by adhering to traditional moral standards, they will be blessed by the divine.
“I had goosebumps. I felt like I went through a spiritual journey. I felt more in touch with my inner sense. There is very much a feeling of calmness, inner peace, and tranquility,” Ms. Tomasone expressed.“[Watching Shen Yun,] I felt a sense of purity and release. It was very meaningful and powerful. It made you go within, listen within, and be true to yourself and what you need to do. I feel very spiritual about it.”
