MIAOLI, Taiwan—A Taiwanese diplomat in education who serves as the president of a cultural association enjoyed Shen Yun at the Miaobei Art Center in Miaoli on Feb. 26. He said Shen Yun presents “very pure Chinese culture,” which is “rarely seen in the world.”

“Shen Yun shows the beauty of traditional Chinese culture and universal values by using dance,” said Mr. CJ Liu. “It’s encouraging to see upright people beat the evil in the dance. We should cherish these values, such as freedom, democracy, etc.”

Mr. Liu is the president of Association of International Cultural and Educational Exchange Taiwan (AICEE Taiwan). He was director of the International Culture and Education Division of Taiwan Education Ministry, and has worked as a diplomat in education in Washington and New York  and London.

Attending Shen Yun, Mr. Liu was impressed with the perfection achieved through the cooperation between Shen Yun dancers and musicians.

“This is a comprehensive show. It has dances, music, and even advanced technology,” he said, referring to the patented dynamic backdrop. “The live orchestra is great. The music is very pleasant to the ears and made the performance easier to understand.”

He felt happy to see a show that presents the pure Chinese culture.

“It’s hard to find a comparable show. Shen Yun presents very pure and very good Chinese culture. It’s very good to see that people around the world can enjoy the real Chinese culture by attending Shen Yun,” he said. “Shen Yun presents the compassion and kind side of the traditional culture. It tells people these good values and mindsets.”

Mr. Liu said he hopes more people can attend Shen Yun and know the Chinese culture.

“I’m very glad that the artistic director brought us these super wonderful dances,” he said.

New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s top classical Chinese dance company, and has a mission to show the beauty and goodness of “China before communism.”

Inspiring Kindness

The Miaoli county fire chief was in awe at Shen Yun after attending on Feb. 26.

“With the dynamic backdrop in the back, the live orchestra under the stage, and the dancers dancing on the stage, Shen Yun took me into these historical stories,” said Mr. Kuang Meng-lin. “It’s majestic! It’s astounding!”

He said Shen Yun is precious because of the values present in the art.

“In the dance which talked about several students who couldn’t finish the poem, and Confucius tried to enlighten them to work for the people … This dance resonated with my heart,” said Mr. Kuang. “As a staff member of the government, I frequently tell my staff to be kind to people and that our job is helping people.”

He said each Shen Yun program delivered different values, all very important to people.

“The times keep changing … But what is the best way? I think we have to identify it,” he said. “This performance really inspires us. You just sit there and watch, and you will arrive at a different understanding. I think this is positive energy.”

For 5,000 years China’s civilization was built on values and virtues from the spiritual teachings of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism, virtues like loyalty, propriety, wisdom, justice, and benevolence—values that are universal and shared the world over.

Mr. Kuang felt Shen Yun suitable for all people, and he was glad that he saw it with his family.

“All dances are very enchanting. I really love them,” said Mr. Kuang. “This world-class show is very well worth seeing.”

‘Brings Positive Energy to Our Daily Lives’

Mr. Huang Shih-han is a legislator and the deputy executive secretary of a committee at the Taiwan Executive Yuan. He was deeply impressed by Shen Yun dancers.
“Shen Yun dancers are very focused on their every gesture. I felt that they danced with their lives. I really admire them,” he said. “Shen Yun dancers have the best techniques and skills in the world.”

Mr. Huang said Shen Yun female dancers were “like heavenly maidens,” very elegant and graceful, and the male dancers were very valiant.

“Shen Yun is at the highest artistic level, and in the most natural way, it brings positive energy to our daily lives,” he said. “The music is played by Western instruments and Eastern instruments. The instruments matched each other so harmoniously, and the music perfectly presents the stories.”

Mr. Huang said he was touched to tears when he saw the stories that highlighted values such as loyalty and respect.

“Shen Yun connects with our lives. It uses the dances to deliver the messages which can correct our bad habits, such as overusing the cellphone,” he said. “Shen Yun uses the artistic form to deliver these messages in a very natural manner. I think this is fantastic!”
