KAWAGUCHI, Japan—Shen Yun Performing Arts amazed Japanese elites at the Kawaguchi Comprehensive Cultural Center Lilia in Kawaguchi, Japan on the afternoon of Jan. 18. Several theatergoers said they were “in awe” after seeing the New York-based classical Chinese dance company.
“At the moment the curtain opened, I knew immediately that this show will be wonderful,” said Mr. Tanaka Hikohachi, the chairman of a nursery school.
“The dancers are awesome! They are very well-trained. Especially the male dancers. Their energies enveloped us. It’s fantastic,” he said.
“From ancient times to today … I saw so many scenes presented on stage. No matter which, all the programs were amazing. All are great memories that I can recall again and again with enjoyment in the future,” he said.
“Shen Yun has a very high artistry. It’s awesome, a real first-class show,” said Mr. Hamaguchi Tsutahiro. “Dancers move accurately and synchronously. All their tumbling movements are very beautiful and extraordinary.”
Mr. Hamaguchi is a professor of medicine at a university and owns a clinic in Tokyo. He spoke highly of the male dancers’ skills.
“Their vitality is influencing all of us. Their jumping abilities are unbelievable. They even tumbled in the air. It’s brilliant,” he said.
“A dancer wrote a poem on the backdrop. Others jumped up (from the stage) but entered the backdrop … The cooperation between the stage and the backdrop is seamless. It has superb expressiveness. I enjoyed it a lot. It’s really magnificent!” he said.
“I love the male dances. The dancers are masculine and valiant. They are majestic. Of course, the female dances are very beautiful,” said Mr. Sasaki Akira, a board member of a well-known shipping company.
Mr. Sasaki was also impressed by Shen Yun’s music.
“The live orchestra is great. Their music and performance are excellent. The ensemble of Western instruments and Chinese erhu (a two-stringed and bowed instrument) is very pleasant to my ears,” he said. “The erhu virtuoso is outstanding. The sound she plays is like therapy for the soul. It has a little bit of sadness, and is very touching.”
Shen Yun uses highly-expressive art forms such as classical Chinese dance, original orchestral music performed live, soloists who sing in the bel canto tradition, animated digital backdrops, and more.
‘My Soul Was Healed’
“The performance is really amazing! I have been immersed in the world Shen Yun presented. Then my soul was healed,” said Mr. Kakumoto Yosiaki, the strategy director of a catering company. “Now I have a calm and relaxed mind.”Mr. Kakumoto said he was tired and nervous before attending Shen Yun. After the refreshing experience, he felt resolve to treat issues fairly and rationally once more.
“Shen Yun is something from the heavens. It’s hard to believe that our human beings can make this. I really feel my heart was cleaned,” he said.
Mr. Kakumoto believed that Shen Yun’s beauty has the power to heal people’s souls. The cooperation of Shen Yun’s artists and Shen Yun’s effort to revive the tradition also held this power, he expressed.
“I feel the whole cast work very hard for the same aim without a second thought. This is powerful and encouraging,” he said.
Shen Yun Is Beautiful
Mr. Kenmotu Kenitirou is the president of a sanitation and air-conditioning equipment manufacturer. He said he was moved by Shen Yun’s dance and music, which made him “want to attend again.”“Dancers have great expressiveness. The female dancers are really eye-catching. They are charming, elegant, and graceful. The male dancers are very strong and powerful. You can’t find them in Japan. I loved it,” he said.
Mr. Kenmotu was surprised by the live orchestra. He said: “Normally, the dancers dance according to the music. I saw Shen Yun’s musicians play according to the dancers. They are very successful. They did a splendid job!”
