STAMFORD, Conn.—George Adonis, a real estate broker and investor, had seen many performances throughout America, but nothing prepared him for Shen Yun Performing Arts, which he watched at The Palace Theatre on April 28.

“It’s one of the most spectacular performances I have ever seen,” said Mr. Adonis. “This really blew my mind. It was just a spectacular performance.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun was founded in 2006 and is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company. Now with eight equally sized companies touring the world simultaneously, Shen Yun’s mission is to revive traditional Chinese culture and to give its audiences a glimpse of pre-communist China.

Mr. Adonis said he thought it is “always important to bring heritage back; it doesn’t matter where you come from.”

“We’ve lost so much tradition throughout the years,” he said. “A lot of people come to America, and they lose that tradition once they come here. So I think it’s very important,” he said.

Mr. Adonis said Shen Yun showed him how China’s traditions go back thousands of years and taught him a lot about the country.
“It was just an awesome experience, and I think that there should be more shows like this, that bring to the forefront tradition of the nation or country that you’re from.”
Mr. Adonis said that he enjoyed the story-based dances in Shen Yun’s program and that the music performed by Shen Yun’s live orchestra—which he described as phenomenal—made him “[want] to get up and dance.”

‘Wish it Didn’t Finish’

After the performance, Mr. Adonis said he could still feel a lingering energy. He said he “felt a lot of different energy fields around” him and that he could feel the energy in the music.

“The energy was in the air,” he said. “It’s just all around the ambiance. I was looking forward to coming here, and I wasn’t disappointed. I came full of excitement, and [I’m] going back home with a lot of energy now.”

“I wish it didn’t finish. I wish I didn’t have to go home.”

Mr. Adonis said that he was impressed by “all the choreography, the dancing, all of the different colors and outfits and costumes that the actors were wearing.
“The choreography is one of a kind [and] the music was great. Overall, I think it’s a fantastic show, and I'd recommend it to anybody,” he said.
“I would just use one word to describe it: spectacular.”
