GUMI, South Korea—Korean business executives said they were touched by Shen Yun Performing Arts after attending the performance at the Gumi Arts Center–Grand Hall in Gumi on Feb. 8.

“This performance is fabulous! Very entertaining,” said Mr. Kang Jingu, the executive director of Pyeongan Company. “The time goes so fast, but we did see a lot of things.”

Mr. Kang said every second of Shen Yun was entertaining.

“I was mesmerized immediately when the curtain was first opened,” he said. “The charm of the traditional Chinese culture really touched my heart.”

Mr. King said Shen Yun made a lot of impossible things possible.

“In reality, it’s super hard to cooperate between the dynamic backdrop and the stage. But Shen Yun did it perfectly without any flaws. This is very refreshing,” he said.

Mr. King said he attended Shen Yun after a friend’s recommendation. Now he will suggest the same to his friends who haven’t watched Shen Yun.

New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s top classical Chinese dance company, and has a mission to show the beauty and goodness of “China before communism.” For 5,000 years China’s civilization was built on values and virtues from the spiritual teachings of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism.

‘Splendid and Majestic’

Convinced by celebrity comments, Mr. Lee Jae-ki drove one and half hours to Gumi to attend Shen Yun. “Wow! The performance is splendid and majestic. I also learned many profound things from Shen Yun. That’s China’s 5,000 years’ civilization.”
Mr. Lee was the president of a trading business. He said, “everything about Shen Yun is fantastic.”

He said Shen Yun is very powerful but brought “harmony” to audiences.

“The dancers coordinated with each other accurately and harmoniously. The atmosphere of the stage was very peaceful. We theatergoers were surrounded by strong, harmonious energy,” he said. “I’m greatly satisfied with Shen Yun.”

“The colors are saturated, which looks very exquisite. The backdrop is captivating. Shen Yun’s techniques are formidable and fabulous. And the live orchestra played very powerful music with both Western and Eastern instruments,” he said.

Mr. Lee suggested people of all different ages attend Shen Yun.

“The traditional culture and values that Shen Yun delivers will benefit everybody, including young generations and people my age,” he said.

Each Shen Yun performance consists of nearly 20 vignettes, presented through highly-expressive art forms such as classical Chinese dance, original orchestral music performed live, soloists who sing in the bel canto tradition, animated digital backdrops, and more.

‘My Soul Is Cleaned’

Ms. Jeon Hwan-hye, a Ph.D. in Microbiology, was very excited after attending Shen Yun.

“Shen Yun has a unique character. It can clean people’s souls,” she said. “No words can describe how wonderful Shen Yun is. My soul is cleaned.”

Ms. Jeon said Shen Yun’s beauty can help people to forget their bad memories and only save the positive and happy ones. It uplifted her by the means of its various aspects.

“The costumes are gorgeous. The curves and colors match with each other so harmoniously. They lighted up my heart,” she said. “The live orchestra is fantastic.”

Ms. Jeon said that as a woman, she particularly enjoyed the female dances.

“The female dancers have perfect figures. They danced very purely and it was touching,” she said. “Actually, all the dancers are extraordinary. They must have gone through a lot of training and practice. They all have outstanding skills and beautiful faces.”

Ms. Jeon praised Shen Yun continually and said all theatergoers she saw were as happy and excited as she was.

Every year, Shen Yun puts on an all-new production, including new choreography, music, costumes, and backdrop sets. The 2023 season will be Shen Yun’s biggest yet, with its eight equally sized touring companies set to visit more than 180 cities across five continents.
