DENVER, Colo.—Frank Douglas and Tammy Evans attended Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Denver Performing Arts Center’s Buell Theatre on March 11.
Mr. Douglas was formerly the senior vice president and casualty actuary for leading insurance company American International Group, Inc. He is now retired.
He said the storytelling was “varied and historic.”
“I liked it. The whole performance was ‘A+!’”
Never Ceases to Amaze
Ms. Evans, a housekeeper, said she saw Shen Yun last year as well.
“It just never ceases to amaze me. It never ceases to amaze me every time I come,” she said.
“This is my first time at the front, and just to see all the detail and hard work and the facial expressions—it makes me cry when they feel sad, and it makes me happy when they’re happy.
“They do an amazing job at working my emotions.”
Shen Yun spoke to Mr. Douglas’s heart as well. “It’s just beauty. It’s just beauty and dance and song and life, you know. It’s just a very pleasant experience. He also praised Shen Yun’s performers, which includes a live orchestra. “They’re so talented and so well prepared, and they obviously have perfected their craft.”
‘Bringing Such Joy to So Many People’
Sean, a creative director, and Leanne McCarthy, a patient liaison, also attended the March 11 afternoon performance of Shen Yun at the Denver Performing Arts Center.
This was the first time they had seen Shen Yun and Ms. McCarthy was particularly impressed. “I’ve been wanting to come for many years. It was on my bucket list, so I got to drag him along to come with me.
“I think the costumes are beautiful, and the dancing is very elegant, and it’s a really awesome show!”
Mr. McCarthy said his overall impression was fantastic. “I liked the special effects, where they jump in and out of the screen. That’s my favorite part.”
Ms. McCarthy approved of Shen Yun’s mission to revive traditional Chinese culture. “I think it’s great because, you know, traditions get lost if you don’t keep up with it, and I think it’s great to keep sharing that and teaching it.”
Her husband agreed. “Yes, it’s something they need to keep alive, for sure!”
He also said it was good that the company is sharing the events happening in China today. “I think it’s great that they share that, [yet] it’s kind of discouraging to see that that’s happening.”
Mr. McCarthy sensed the dancers shared their belief in truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance. “You can feel that when you are watching the show ... It’s just beautiful, yes. It’s beautiful, beautiful to see them sharing that with the world.”Ms. McCarthy agreed. “Yes, just keep doing what you are doing. You’re bringing such joy to so many people. It is really great to see.”
