NEW YORK—David Samuels, CEO of a financial risk management company, saw Shen Yun Performing Arts for the first time at Lincoln Center on the evening of April 15 and thought it exceeded all expectations.
“I think it was absolutely wonderful. The performance exceeded expectations on all levels. The performers themselves are energetic, they’re well trained, obviously ... putting in a lot of time to get prepared for everything, so it was quite enjoyable,” said Mr. Samuels.
Shen Yun was founded in New York in 2006, quickly becoming the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company.
Mr. Samuels was impressed with the production as a whole and noted several aspects as excellent.
“I really think the choreography was absolutely wonderful, the scores were clearly original. And having the dancers just absolutely in sync with each other was wonderful.
“I didn’t know what to expect when the show first opened ... and then to see the theatrical element come in as well was quite good, made it quite enjoyable, and the stories were quite interesting.”
Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization, which interested Mr. Samuels, who has spent a lot of time in China.
“I think the message was loud and clear. I think there was a combination of messages there that certainly, culturally, China has a long history and wonderful dance and song. But I also think there was some quite meaningful commentary there related to certain current events that are going on in the world, so I thought it was balanced.”
