“The artistry is unmatched,” said Ms. Ryan on the afternoon of April 8.
“This music—just so special,” she said. “To see a little bit of the Chinese culture, a little bit of the history. It was really wonderful.”
The soloists sing Chinese lyrics with the translations projected onto the digital backdrop. The lyrics often reflect the deep spirituality of traditional Chinese culture, which Ms. Ryan said was not something you see every day in New York—yet the audience responded very positively to it, which was a pleasant surprise for her.
Katerina Hantzandreou, a sociology professor, was greatly impressed with the afternoon performance.
“The show was actually a masterpiece,” she said. “It felt like you were watching something that you felt hard to believe was real.”
“It was a combination of colors, cinema, sound—it was like a big movie screen, but it was real life,” she said.
“This is something that is a must-see! Anyone, whether you are a native New Yorker like myself or you are visiting, or just someone who’s here to see what New York has to offer—definitely take advantage!”
