AARHUS, Denmark—Shen Yun opened the first of its two performances in Denmark to a full house at The Concert Hall Aarhus on March 6. In attendance was Mr. Wang, an engineering student from China.

Shen Yun brings out the essence of traditional culture. It was a stunning blend of technical skill with stagecraft,” he said.

What he saw made him proud to be Chinese.

“I never thought Chinese culture would make such a splash in Europe,“ he said. ”The woman next to me couldn’t stop wiping away tears. That was shocking to me.”

Long after Shen Yun had given its final curtain call, Mr. Wang lingered at the theater. He couldn’t bring himself to leave.
“I noticed that the smiles of all the performers exuded kindness and friendliness,” he said.
“Everything on stage was so glittery and bright. The music was excellent. As I inhaled and exhaled with the dancers’ movements—I felt my spirit elevate. It’s like a new world opened up to me.”
Mr. Wang also loved how Shen Yun presented Chinese history. “I was very impressed. It wasn’t boring at all because they added comedy to the storylines. It was great!”
In 2006, Shen Yun Performing Arts was established in New York by artists who dreamt of bringing back China’s 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture.
Through a series of classical, ethnic, folk, and story-based dances, as well as solo musical performances, Shen Yun is rediscovering and sharing with the world the lost beauty of pre-communist China.
While Mr. Wang was in China, he read reviews about Shen Yun. However, those were completely different from what he witnessed firsthand.

“There were so many contradicting comments online, and people were spreading misinformation. I wanted to come and see for myself what is really going on,” he said.

After his experience, Mr. Wang couldn’t understand “why anybody would think Shen Yun is bad. It’s incredulous. The show was magnificent!”

For its commitment to reviving traditional culture and presenting the truth of events under communist rule in present-day Chinese society, Shen Yun is currently forbidden by the ruling regime from performing in China.

“It’s such a pity,” Mr. Wang said. “My takeaway tonight is to always stand steadfast in my faith and belief. Shen Yun [showed me] the spirit and outlook we should have as humans when going about our daily lives.”

He was especially touched by the message that “if we treat each other with kindness and uphold traditional values, we will ultimately be blessed by the divine.”

“I hope Shen Yun artists will never give up and continue to train the next generation of performers. By doing so, sooner or later, China and the world’s people will all get a chance to see the glory and profoundness of traditional Chinese culture. I’m sure that day will come.”
