ATLANTA—After seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts for the first time at the Atlanta Symphony Hall on Dec. 26, Gaetan Le Divelec, vice president of artistic planning at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, praised the beauty of Shen Yun and the talent of the performers.
“I think it’s beautiful,” he said. “The dancers are clearly very trained at a very high standard. There’s a great sense of discipline as well, which I think is marvelous.”
New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company, “bringing to life a lost culture through beautiful art,” according to the company’s website.
Besides classical Chinese dance, an expressive art form dating back thousands of years, the performance also features an orchestra that combines traditional Chinese instruments and classical Western instruments, as well as innovative 3D projected backdrops that allow for interaction with the dancers.
Mr. Le Divelec said he enjoyed these different features of Shen Yun.
“I loved the music. The music is wonderful,” he said, adding that he was “really impressed with how real characters onstage can go into the backdrop. I think that’s really clever.”
‘Best Event I’ve Ever Been To’
Dan Wilson, a piano store owner, said Shen Yun is the best performance he has ever seen.“That was amazing. It’s the best event I’ve ever been to. It was just breathtaking,” Mr. Wilson said after seeing the performance on Dec. 26.
Mr. Wilson added that he found the performance of the orchestra to be “perfect,” and was impressed with the talent of the performers.
“It was just awesome. I was impressed,” he said.
Like Mr. Wilson, Sasha Lewis, a school teacher, said she “absolutely loved” Shen Yun.
“It’s like a fresh breath of air,” she said.
