“Leader McConnell’s concussion recovery is proceeding well and the leader was discharged from the hospital today,” said McConnell’s communications director David Popp. “At the advice of his physician, the next step will be a period of physical therapy at an inpatient rehabilitation facility before he returns home.”
Popp noted that McConnell is also being treated for a minor rib fracture.
The Senate will be in session this week.
Popp announced on March 8 that McConnell, 81, was admitted to the hospital. “This evening, Leader McConnell tripped at a local hotel during a private dinner. He has been admitted to the hospital where he is receiving treatment,” he said. The event was reportedly at the Waldorf Astoria.
This was not the first time McConnell has fallen.
In 2019, he was hospitalized for a fractured shoulder after he fell on the outdoor patio of his Louisville, Kentucky, home.
McConnell, who has been in the Senate since 1985, is not the only member of the upper congressional chamber to be hospitalized lately.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), 89, was released from the hospital on March 7 after getting treatment for shingles.
“I continue receiving treatment and look forward to returning to the Senate as soon as possible,” she posted on Twitter.
Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), 53, has been receiving treatment for clinical depression at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center since being admitted there on Feb. 15—just days after being discharged from George Washington University Hospital, where he was treated for lightheadedness.
