A campaign staffer for Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) died in a car crash on Friday, according to Vice President Mike Pence.
Pence said at an event in Savannah that the staffer, Harrison Deal, died in a car accident, which is why Loeffler wasn’t there.
Loeffler later issued a statement about Deal’s death.
“It is with an extremely heavy heart that we mourn the loss of Harrison Deal. My heart aches for his family, and Jeff and I will continue to surround them in love and prayer in the days ahead,” Loeffler stated. “Harrison was a beloved member of our campaign team. More importantly, Harrison was a smart, bright, loving, loyal and outstanding young man.”
She added: “Harrison embodied the very best of this campaign—and the very best of our state. We will forever cherish and honor Harrison’s memory, and I ask every Georgian to join us in praying for his family during this difficult time.”
Loeffler faces a Jan. 5 runoff election against Raphael Warnock. She earlier joined Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.) and Pence at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention headquarters in Atlanta.
According to a Linkedin page, Deal worked as a Loeffler campaign staffer and was an attendee at the University of Georgia.
Other details about the crash were not provided.
