Sela Ward was welcomed as the newest cast member on the New York based crime drama CSI: NY, after the departure of Melina Kanakaredes was announced by CBS on Monday. Kanakaredes had been with the crew for the past six seasons. Her contract expired and she decided to leave CSI: NY to work on new projects, according to Entertainment Weekly.
According to the network’s official announcement, Sela Ward will play an “investigator from Washington, D.C., whose work is driven by her empathy for the victim,” in the upcoming seventh season of the drama, which will air on Fridays starting the fall.
An Emmy winner for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her roles in “Sister”(1994) Once and Again (2000), Ward said she is a fan of CSI: NY and is thrilled to join its crew.
“We are delighted to have Sela joining CSI: NY,” said Executive Poducer Pam Veasey.
